国际著名药理学家 Vanhoutte教授逝世

国际著名药理学家，享誉世界的血管生物学前辈Paul Michel Georges Vanhoutte教授因病不幸于2019年8月23日在巴黎逝世，享年79岁。

The discipline of pharmacology and vascular biology lost Dr. Paul Michel Georges Vanhoutte. He died at the age of 79 in Paris, France on August 23^rd , 2019.

Vanhoutte教授1940年出生于比利时，分别在根特大学及安特卫普大学获得学士、硕士及医学博士学位。1969年起先后在根特大学和美国梅奥诊所(Mayo Clinic)任助理教授、副教授、教授。1981-1989任梅奥医学中心生理学及药理学教授，1989-1995任贝勒医学院药理学及生理学教授、实验治疗中心主任。1992-2002年任法国施维雅研究院（Institut De Recherches Servier）研发副总裁。2003-2011年担任香港大学特聘访问教授、生物药学研发中心主任、药理系主任教授。他由于卓越的成就先后受邀担任世界多个国家大学及学术机构的客座教授，其中包括非洲卢旺达国立大学（1967）、波兰科学院（1979）、沙特国王大学。他担任多个国家大学和科研机构的荣誉教授、客座教授或国际科学顾问，包括北京大学、北京协和医学院、中国医学科学院药物研究所、中国海洋大学、第二军医大学、中国科学院上海药物研究所、法国斯特拉斯堡大学、南丹麦大学、马来亚大学、韩国全北大学、瑞士苏黎世大学等。

Dr. Vanhoutte was born in 1940 in Belgium, where he obtained his degrees at the University of Gent (B.S., M.S., and M.D.) and the University of Antwerpen (equivalent to Ph.D.). He received his postdoctoral training at the University of Gent and at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA). His academic career started at the University of Gent (Assistant, 1969-1971), followed by the Mayo Clinic (Research Associate, 1972-1973), the University of Antwerpen (Belgium), from Associate Professor to full Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology, 1973-1981), again the Mayo Clinic (Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1981-1989) and Baylor College of Medicine (Houston TX, USA, Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Physiology, and Director Center for Experimental Therapeutics, 1989-1995). From 1992 to 2002, Dr. Vanhoutte was Vice-President R&D, and Director of Discovery Research at the Institut de Recherches Internationales Servier, in Courbevoie (Paris, France). During his tenure as Director of Discovery Research at Servier, he supervised the discovery and preclinical development of drugs designed for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, central nervous system disorders, cancer and osteoarthritis. From 2003 to 2006 he was Distinguished Visiting Professor and Director of the BioPharmaceutical Development Centre, at the University of Hong Kong. From 2006 to 2011 he was the Head of the Department of Pharmacology, University of Hong Kong. He was Honorary Professor at the Peking Union Medical College (Beijing), the Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the Ocean University of China, the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai and the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica. He is also Visiting Professor and International Scientific Advisor at the Peking University Health Sciences Center and Visiting Professor at the University of South Denmark, the University of Strasbourg (France), the University of Malaya (Malaysia), Chonbuk National University in Jeonju (South-Korea) and the University of Zurich (Switzerland).

Vanhoutte教授是欧洲科学院院士，巴黎国家药学院院士，比利时医学科学院院士以及巴西医学科学院荣誉院士。美国内科医师协会、美国生理学会、美国心脏协会、美国临床研究学会、美国心脏病学学院、美国血管学院、美国药理学及实验治疗学会、比利时生理与药理学会、英国药理学会、法国药理学会及欧洲心脏学会的会士。香港药理学会前任主席，亚洲血管生物学会创会主席。曾担任国际基础与临床药理学联合会（IUPHAR）秘书长、主席及其受体命名委员会主席。担任多个国际学术杂志如Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology主编， the American Journal of Physiology （心脏与循环分册）副主编，Circulation、Circulation Research、Hypertension、中国药理杂志（英文）等期刊的编委。他发表了669篇研究论文、574篇综述、评论及著作章节。为生物学与化学、药理学及临床医学三个领域的高被引学者（ISI），论文总被引88，643次，H指数为143。

Dr. Vanhoutte is member of the Academia Europea, the Academie Nationale de Pharmacie [Paris] and the Belgian Academy of Medicine, and an honorary member of the Brazilian Academy of Medicine. He is member of the American Association of Physicians, the American Society of Physiology, the American Heart Association(fellow), the American Society for Clinical Investigation (Emeritus), the American College of Cardiology (fellow), the American College of Angiology (fellow), the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the Belgian Society for Physiology and Pharmacology, , the British Pharmacological Society (Honorary Fellow), the French Pharmacological Society and the European Society of Cardiology(fellow). He is the Past-President of the Hong Kong Pharmacology Society. Dr. Vanhoutte is the founder and Past-President of the Serotonin Club and of the Asian Society of Vascular Biology. He is honorary member of the Physiological Society (London), the Chinese Pharmacological Society, the German Society of Angiology and the Société Française de Cardiologie. He chaired the the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) Committee for Receptor Nomenclature from 1989 to 1998. He was Secretary General of IUPHAR from 1998 to 2002, and President of the Union from 2002 to 2006.From 1989 to 2007, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology. He has been Associate Editor of the American Journal of Physiology (Heart and Circulatory Physiology). He has been member of the Editorial Board of many scientific journals (e.g. Circulation, Circulation Research, Hypertension, Acta Pharmacologica Sinica). He has published 669 original research papers, and 574 editorials, reviews or chapters in books. Dr. Vanhoutte is a Highly Cited Researcher (ISI) in three categories: Biology & Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Clinical Medicine. His h-index is 124.

Vanhoutte教授揭示了内皮细胞在血管功能调节及疾病中的重要作用。他悉心培养提携后辈，深受爱戴，被誉为血管生物学之父。美国实验药理及治疗学学会和国际五羟色胺研究会均设立了以他命名的Vanhoutte讲座。他发动创立了中国药理学会施维雅青年药理学家奖，青年药物化学奖，迄今已有数百位青年人获奖。他同时也在中国从事血管生物学和药理学研究，在上海、西安等地成功组织了多届亚洲血管生物学大会，协助中国药理学会申办并成功主办了第十五届世界药理学大会（WCP2006）。他晚年仍不顾疲倦，长途奔波与欧亚之间，为亚洲和中国的医药学科研教育的发展发挥了巨大的推动作用。在2018年11月举行的血管医学第三届会议暨第8届亚洲血管生物学大会上，Vanhoutte教授抱病到上海全程参加了会议并做了大会报告，令我们深受感动。

Dr. Vanhoutte’s major scientific contribution has been to appreciate and analyze the importance of endothelial cells in the control of the underlying vascular smooth muscle in vascular health and disease, and to highlight the complexity of that regulation. He contributed greatly in cultivating the young talents. He established the Paul M. Vanhoutte Distinguished Lectureship in Vascular Pharmacology for American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and “Paul Vanhoutte Lecture” in Serotonin Pharmacology for the International Society for Serotonin Research Council. He was one of the founders of the CNPHARS-Servier Young Investigator Awards in Pharmacology and CPA-Servier Prize for Young Investigators in Medicinal Chemistry. Hundreds of young scientists have been awarded and encouraged to pursue their career in medical research. He organized the scientific meeting of Asian Society for Vascular Biology in Xi’an and Shanghai. During Dr. Vanhoutte’s tenure of IUPHAR Secretary General and President, Chinese Pharmacological Society won the right to host the 15^th World Congress on Pharmacology. It was successfully held in Beijing in 2006. In his later years, Dr. Vanhoutte travelled frequently between Europe and Asia, promoting the development of medical scientific research and education in China and Asia. Although suffered by diseases, Dr. Vanhoutte went to Shanghai to give a plenary lecture in the 8^th Scientific Meeting of Asian Society for Vascular Biology, which deeply touched all the participants.

Dr. Vanhoutte is an old friend of the Chinese pharmacology society. The Chinese Pharmacological Society suffered a significant loss with the passing of Dr. Paul M. Vanhoutte. He will forever be remembered and appreciated by us!
