Dr. Taisei Mushiroda

Taisei Mushiroda is currently Head of the Laboratory for Pharmacogenomics at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences. He graduated from the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kanazawa University in 1988 and then joined Hokuriku Seiyaku Co. Ltd. (now Abbie), where he spent 15 years undertaking pre-clinical and clinical pharmacokinetic studies in drug discovery and development. He earned his Ph.D. in drug metabolism and disposition from Hokkaido University in 2000 under the direction of Professor Tetsuya Kamataki. He joined RIKEN in 2003 and commenced research into the identification of genes/SNPs associated with drug responses. His current research focuses on integrating genomic information and drug responses of patients to establish “stratified medicine” that aims to provide the right drug at the appropriate dose for each individual patient.
